چکیده

This chapter presents the process of interaction of light, mainly in the xray range, with matter. The subject is introduced by some experimental evidences of x-ray absorption, emission or scattering by different kinds of material. The ways of describing the electromagnetic wave field are then briefly presented before developing its interaction with an electron in an atom. This process is then applied in the context of core x-ray spectroscopies. The absorption, the dichroism and the resonant diffraction are then specifically presented before giving some key elements to manage monoelectronic simulations.

Simulation of Surface Plasmon Excitation in a Plasmonic Nano-Wire Using Surface Integral Equations

In this paper, scattering of a plane and monochromatic electromagnetic wave from a nano-wire is simulated using surface integral equations. First, integral equationsgoverning unknown fields on the surface is obtained based on Stratton-Cho surface integral equations. Then, the interaction of the wave with a non-plasmonic as well as a palsmonic nano-wire is considered. It is shown that in scatter...

Broken time reversal of light interaction with planar chiral nanostructures.

We report unambiguous experimental evidence of broken time-reversal symmetry for the interaction of light with an artificial nonmagnetic material. Polarized color images of planar chiral gold-on-silicon nanostructures consisting of arrays of gammadions show intriguing and unusual symmetry: structures, which are geometrically mirror images, lose their mirror symmetry in polarized light. The symm...

The quantum theory of spin light (electromagnetic radiation emitted by a Dirac massive neutrino propagating in dense matter due to the weak interaction of a neutrino with background fermions) is developed. In contrast to the Cherenkov radiation, this effect does not disappear even if the medium refractive index is assumed to be equal to unity. The formulas for the transition rate and the total ...

Optical and transport studies of Ni(dmit)2-based organic conductors.

Single-crystal Ni~dmit!2 salts, ~Ph4P!@Ni~dmit!2#3 , ~Bu4N!2@Ni~dmit!2#7•2CH3CN, and ~Me3S!@Ni~dmit!2#2 , have been synthesized. All show semiconducting behavior in their temperature-dependent dc conductivities. Room-temperature polarized reflectance measurements have been made over the range between 100 and 32 000 cm ~12 meV–4 eV!. For light polarized along the Ni~dmit!2 stacking axis, all spe...
